Special Note Regarding the 2020 Fishing Season
Just a short update on what is happening up here in Winter Harbour at the moment, plus a special update with regards to our US / International guests and the current Covid19 situation.
We are up and running this summer, although at a reduced capacity. Fishing has been stellar for bottom fish (especially Lingcod), while salmon has been hit and miss – we have had to fight the weather the last couple of weeks due to a constant barrage of SE systems that has been hounding us. The long-range forecast points to us getting back to our normal NW winds, which we are sure the guests and crew will appreciate.
With what has happened in the world these last six months, we were hoping that things would settle down and we would be able to get all of our guests up to Winter Harbour this year, but at this moment, we can’t see the Canadian borders opening up to US or International travel. The Provincial Health Office announce Tuesday that it was ‘highly unlikely’ that there would be any US or International non-essential travel for the rest of the summer. The plan was to take the June / early July groups and bring them up to the Harbour at the end of August – first part of September, but with the announcement Tuesday, we don’t think that the borders will be open to non-essential travel by then.
For all the guests who have booked dates for this 2020 summer and are unable to make it due to the Covid19 situation, we have a couple of options for you. A full refund will be given if you would like, or you can push your dates and deposits to 2021. At this moment, your current booking dates will roughly be the same for 2021, they might be off by a day or two due to holiday weekends and such, but the schedule will be similar to 2020 – we will not have the dates finalized until near the end of August at the latest.
For all of our Canadian guests who will be fishing with us this summer, we are following all COVID-19 protocols as per the Provincial Health Office, while at the lodge or out on one of our charters.
We are definitely going to miss all of our US and International guests this season, as many of you have been with us every year for the last couple of decades – we truly look forward to having all you up here every summer. We hope to see everyone who couldn’t make it this season again, either in the summer of 2021 or at the sport shows in early 2021.
